Start Your Blog: 3 Ideas for Creative People

by g.o.a.t

So you're a creative person with lots of cool projects and mind-blowing ideas, but you're not quite sure how to make a blog out of it. Maybe you think blogging is for writers, maybe you think it takes time, or maybe you don't know what to write about. It can feel impossible at first, but blogging as a creative person is actually a piece of cake. Here are three simple ways any creative person can kick off their blog.

1. Share the Story Behind Your Work

The stereotype of the ‘misunderstood artist’ is nothing new. And in some cases, that’s part of the appeal. To make the audience wonder what you mean, or to let them have their own interpretations of your work are great ways to engage with them. But sometimes, sharing the background of your work makes it a whole new experience for both you and the audience. Share an image/video/audio of your work, and write about what inspired you to create it. Talk about the concept and thought process behind it. People love art, and people love stories – combine the two for an amazing blog, just like this famous photographer does.

2. Share the Process of Your Work

Maybe that one picture you drew took months to complete. Maybe you stood in the cold for hours to get that perfect shot of the sunset. Maybe you had to reshoot that one scene hundreds of times to get the footage you needed. Every artist puts in a lot of effort into their work, and that's something the world would love to hear about. You can write your blog like you'd write a diary, and update posts as you create your art. Or, you can record the process with pictures or video, and upload them when you're done with your project. People love to watch while an artist is at work, and that's exactly why this video has almost 7.5 million views. If you want to share knowledge and ideas with fellow creators, write about the tools or products you used.

3. Build a Portfolio

If you want to make a career out of your art, a portfolio is one of the most important things to prepare. A lot of freelance artists and creatives make their own website portfolio, which is great. But if you’re not good with technology, or if you want to build your portfolio asap, then consider using a blogging platform instead. When making a portfolio, make sure you include the date of your project and your client. If you haven't worked with a client yet, don't sweat it! You can just put 'personal'. The more you show perspective clients what you do, the better.

Not to sound too sales-y, but g.o.a.t. is the perfect blogging platform to showcase your work! You can upload images, videos, or audio of your work, and choose from two cool layouts. We recommend our new layout 'Purple Haze' if you want to really emphasize the images. g.o.a.t is also very easy to use, so you'll be blogging in no time. We're constantly adding new features, layouts, and stock photos constantly too. If there's anything you want, just let us know via our twitter or facebook accounts.
